The way AJ play I see a lot of stronger and taller Jimmy Butler and the way he thinks , maneuver against his initial defenders.
I love his personality and demeanor. Very well smart and well spoken as well.

It's been sad seeing most of the Capital One arena full of fans of opposing teams. Hopefully having AJ on the team will rejuvinate the fanbase!!
Congrats to the Wiz and to BYU for hosting a very exciting player. Seeing AJ and DP go at it for the next decade+ will be interesting to say the least.

Wizards finally got it right 😭🔥🔥
Wizards made a huge mistake taking AJ over DP
It was meant to be. Wizards will be special in the coming years
It starts at the rim for aj. Dybantsa made 59.2 percent of his attempts at the rim, an excellent number given that so many of them were self-created. He made 70 percent of his shots at the rim in half-court settings over the last two FIBA tournaments, per Synergy. He also made 69 percent of his attempts at the rim in half-court settings during his senior year at Utah Prep. Elite footwork for a 19 year old wing. He’s huge out there at 6’10, easily looks like the biggest on the court and he’s just too big and has the handle to run PNR, set up teammates, and literally walks to the rim because the size is overwhelming.
His stride length is insane, just one dribble and he’s there, has two foot, long pickups, carryovers, shields the ball well and just plows through any gap. His left hand is good, and he’s got touch shots around the basket like floaters or odd leaners when he goes left (i don't like this shot but he can hit it with decent consistency) when he can’t get all the way there.
He can spin, go off either foot, and generally keeps his balance at all times. he shows ridicoulous body control and flexiblity at 6'10 and weaves his way in or around traffic, and bodies do not bother him. his touch stays stable with contact too, and can use either hand from any distance. He has sweeps, euro steps, slow steps, and puts the ball over his head so opponents can't reach it. He runs in transition extremely fast to get to the rim and it's hard to stop him when he has a head of steam. He dunks everything around the rim when he gets the chance, windmills look effortless. He bumps to create looks, and has a potent jab series where he jabs to fake one way. Draws a ton of fouls.
His handle has real wiggle flashes, uses his shoulder biomechanics, has between the legs, behind-the-back, crossovers, spins, really nice flashes of a great handle for his size. His handle gets loose sometimes, and it could be better, but his movement skills and handle are functional right now, especially considering his size. A lot of his turnovers come from his ball security rather than his passing. Has a nasty rocker step since HS. As a shooter, dybantsa has rightfully improved, but he's a great mid range scorer, rises up from the elbows. He stops right in front of nail help and shoots over defenders, or he can fake them out by pump faking and then shooting.
He can spin into fadeaways from the mid post, bump and spin to either side, very polished footwork. He hit a strong 46.9 percent of his midrange jumpers, per Synergy. On shots between 10 and 18 feet this year, he made 50.7 percent. He can square up mid-air or just find his alignment very quickly. He hit 35% of his pull up 3s, on lower volume, which needs to be higher volume, but it's improvement, his form looks much more cleaner than last time, still prone to shooting on the way down/lower arc, or a slight hitch. It's not a major issue, very fixable. Off the catch, dybantsa can hit an open look, but he needs to be more consistent from there, mechanics could be better.
He can get shot happy and settle for mid range jumpers and missing reads. He has moments where he does drive into brick walls and forces the issue, a problem since HS. Dybantsa's mechanics and numbers as a 3pt shooter were never alarmingly good statistically, but with time it will get better. He needs to make sure his elbow and wrist are underneath the ball and that his weight transfer from his lower half to his upper half is consistent. 30.1 percent on catch-and-shoot 3s, needs to tick up. He jumps really high on all of his attempts, which is good. His pull up will matter more than off the catch – AJ is shooting out of pick-and-roll looks is that he is hitting nearly 36% of his threes as the pick-and-roll ball-handler. He has shooting touch, and he flicks his wrist. When he gathers with momentum, the shot looks really smooth. There's real potential here, and i think AJ will be a good shooter in the future.
As a passer, dybantsa has also improved. He can hit the strong side kickout pass really well, see over the top of the defense, throw lobs to his jumping bigs, and can run PNR and hit the pocket pass. He uses ball fakes to manipulate the defense, can pass with either hand (though his left hand should be utilized more, likes 2 hands to pass), flashes weakside skip passes, and hit standstill reads out of the post. His length lets him get access to windows that other players can't see.
He moves the ball out of double teams as well, and throwing those skip passes. He's not an excellent passer, but a good one who can become great. Off the dribble, Dybantsa can pass with either hand going into an opposite direction, whipping it with one arm. He misses reads for contested looks sometimes. His timing and accuracy need to be better, sometimes the pass isn't in the pocket, or he throws it too late when his scoring move is cut off. he averaged 2.9 assists versus 2.8 turnovers at Prolific Prep, per Synergy, and 3.6 assists versus 3.1 turnovers at Utah Prep. This season, he was at 3.7 assists versus 3.1 turnovers, where majority of it was ball security. NBA spacing will help him.
Dybantsa's defense needs to be better. He gets lost off the ball, dosen't rotate really fast, and is prone to taking plays off on that end. He is a good on-ball defender who can slide with defenders, use his length to smother shots, and really competes when he's being sought after. He can flip his hips at any angle and has the vertical to jump and contest shots at the rim. However, his off ball defense is bad due to his motor. His stock rates are insanely low, he can be a step late on tags, dosen't anticipate passes, and has low feel on defense. His screen navigation has some nitpicks. But i'm not worried about this. Dybantsa can be a good defender when he wants too, has all of the tools and is good on the ball. Even if he is an average defender, that's totally fine as well. He can be more than that though.
